ABOUT ME

I am a Canadian wildlife cameraman and I absolutely love my job. By revealing the beauty of the natural world through film, I hope to inspire people to protect and invest in wildlife. My motivation when filming is to make the natural world look like narrative cinema, as I feel this brings an immersive element to the viewers. I believe the best story telling happens when the audience forgets that they are watching a film. I am fascinated by all forms of nature, and have worked as a cinematographer on productions for IMAX, BBC, CBC, FranceTV5, Eden, TV5 Québec and ARTE.

After studying narrative cinematography under Danny Nowak and Ross Kelsay at Capilano University, I took inspiration from and worked for DOP Brendan Uegama. My transition into wildlife filming was under the mentorship of Jeff Turner and Justin Maguire. I continue to work closely with Jeff and Justin on numerous projects a year. Most recently, I have started my own company, Agawa Wild Films, to showcase my work and develop proposals for future projects. It is named after Agawa Bay in Lake Superior Provincial Park. Here, as a child, I fell in love with the wilds of Canada and

realized my passion for the natural world and its

conservation.

I live for the rugged challenges this career offers. Last winter I spent ten hours a day snowshoeing through the Yukon, and seventy-six days later I became the first cameraman to film a wild lynx hunting snowshoe hare (See Full Story). This is what truly makes me unique as a cameraman; not only my inexhaustible determination to get the shot, but also the bond I am able to form with an animal I am filming. Animals trust me, and this allows for special access into their worlds. In turn, I witness natural and sometimes new behaviours and capture more intimate and beautiful shots.
